Who we are

Hi! My name is Sharon Dyer. I am a crop insurance agent located in Arab, Alabama.

I have been involved in farming my entire life, which has given me a unique knowledge about the farming industry that most other crop insurance agents don’t have.

I grew up helping my father (or getting in the way!) on his row crop operation in Fairview, which is in Cullman County, Alabama. My childhood was filled with jumping in cotton wagons, helping him move equipment from field to field, and watching the weather forecast every single night. I learned from my parents that farmers have to work extremely hard. No farmer is “just” a farmer. We all have to be part chemist, part meteorologist, mechanic, and much more.

My husband and I have our own row crop operation, which we’ve managed for over 15 years now, where we produce corn, cotton, soybeans, wheat and hay. The two jobs I enjoy doing the most on our own farming operation are planting and hauling grain to market.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, which I earned from Alabama A&M, and I have a Graduate degree in Agribusiness Management, which I earned from Mississippi State University.

I worked as a credit analyst for 14 years, working with two Farm Credit Associations. This helped me to gain a good understanding of many different farming operations, as well as an excellent understanding of the financial side of farming and the risks involved. Before working with Farm Credit, I worked with the Farm Service Agency.

In 2022, I decided to go into business for myself, selling crop insurance. Through my own experience in farming, my education (which I will ALWAYS admit is no replacement for real life experience), and my work experience with the Farm Credit System, I believe I have a better understanding than most people of the risks involved in farming. The extreme drought our area experienced in 2024 really drove home for me that farmers can be just one or two rain showers away from losing everything. On our own farming operation, we had crop insurance and managed just fine, even after the worst crop year that we have ever experienced. I want to see every single farmer succeed, and risk management is something that I would love to help you with. I have partnered with two AIP’s (Approved Insurance Provider) - Rain and Hail, and AgriSompo. Both of these companies have a very long history in the crop insurance industry and have equipped me with the tools I need to customize your policy to exactly what you need, without paying for what you don’t need.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
